Klaasmeyer Wins at Steamy Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) The temperatures were not kind to race fans or drivers this weekend in central Illinois with heat and humidity making the outdoors miserable, Macon Speedway carried out their racing program featuring the POWRi Midgets & Micro Sprints.

Tucker Klaasmeyer took the checkered flag in the POWRi Midgets during the 30-lap A-Main feature. The win for the Paola, KS., native was his third on the 2018 circuit. The win almost wasn’t going to happen. Trailing Tyler Courtney until the 21st lap, Courtney’s midget gave out and opened the chance for Klaasmeyer. Jake Neuman raced to close the gap between first and second place and coming out of the final turn slid in front of the leader but couldn’t get the grip to stay and finished in second place.

Austin Schaeffer of Columbia, MO., looked sharp at the high side of the 1/5th mile high bank dirt oval. Schaeffer looked dominate through the 20-lap feature event but finished just ahead of Joe B. Miller, who has been a multi-time winner at Macon Speedway. Schaeffer’s win would be his third of the 2018 season.

Guy Taylor took the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model feature with a 20-lap finish. The race was mostly for second place as uncle & nephew battled for the runner up position. Ryan Little and Jake Little stayed close and together but would not get close to the leader as uncle Ryan finished ahead of nephew Jake. The race was completed with the use of a caution.

Jeremy Nichols returned to victory lane in the Street Stocks division during the Midwest Big Ten Series event. Nichols has been one of the best in the series over the most recent years and his results continued to be successful Saturday night against his competitors.

The Hornets capped off the warm night with a newcomer taking the checkered flag. Anthony Sunshine from St. Louis won his heat and got the feature, as well.

Macon Speedway thanks the race fans and the drivers for braving the elements to compete in the undesireable conditions. Macon Speedway returns this Thursday with the 38th Annual Herald & Review 100 event part of the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour. The Super Late Models will compete in a 100-lap feature with $5,000 to the winner. The BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds and B-Modifieds will be part of the program.

POWRi National Midget League Ready For Saturday Macon Speedway Event

(Macon, IL) With the 2018 rain-shortened POWRi Illinois SPEED Week in the books, the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League and POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League eye the weekend ahead. Saturday night, the Micro League will join up with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League and head to the “Mighty Macon Speedway,” with teams itching to get down to business after Macon Speedway’s portion of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week succumbed to rain, early in the month.

In POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League competition, Ryan Robinson holds the top position over Tucker Klaasmeyer. Defending POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League champion and Rookie of the Year, Logan Seavey, sits in third. Zach Daum holds fourth, while Karter Sarff rounds out the top five. Sarff is also currently leading the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie of the Year standings.

In POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League competition, Harley Hollan has taken the top position with Austin Schaeffer in tow. Defending POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League champion Joe B. Miller is currently in third, while Jordan Howell holds fourth. Jackson Frisbie rounds out the top five.

Heading the list of regular divisions at Macon Speedway this weekend will be the Midwest Big Ten Series Street Stocks.  It will be the fifth event of the year for the tour, with Monticello, IL driver, Darrell Dick, leading the standings.  Dick has yet to win but has a pair of second place finishes at Jacksonville and Lincoln and a pair of fourths at Macon.  Lincoln, IL driver, Justin Crowell, is second in points, while Decatur, IL’s Terry Reed, Lovington, IL’s Jeremy Nichols, and Chris Dick of Deland, IL round out the top five.  Nichols has won three out of the four events but missed the most recent race at Macon, a race in which Timmy Dick claimed the victory.

Springfield, IL’s Guy Taylor will lead the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models to the 1/5-mile oval this Saturday night.  Taylor has won two out of the eight features, while Dakota Ewing has been on a tear lately, trying to close that gap.  Ewing has now won four features, including three out of the last four races he has start.  Saturday night, Ewing came from the third row to win the Firecracker 40 event.  Jake Little, Cody Maguire, and Kyle VanDorn are top five point guys.

Rounding out Saturday’s divisions are the DIRTcar Hornets.  Originally not on the schedule, the Hornets were added thanks to strong car counts and really good racing this season.  Springfield, IL driver, Mike Eskew, leads the points by 56 over Decatur, IL driver, Jeremy Reed.  Reed has won a division leading four events, but Eskew has been a model of consistency, giving him the edge.  Eskew has top five finishes in all eight features this season.  Steve Stine, Matt Reed, and Marty Sullivan finished off the top five.

The first 100 fans through the gates on Saturday night will receive a small American flag in honor of the upcoming Independence Day holiday.  Pit gates open at 3:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00.  Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free.

Ewing Outlasts for 40 Lap Feature Finish

(Macon, IL) Dakota Ewing has had a successful season so far at Macon Speedway. Feature wins and career-defining moments have been plentiful during his 2018. Another milestone was added Saturday night when he captured the Firecracker 40s feature in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models. He led one lap. The last one. Jake Little looked dominate and appeared to be on his way to victory until Ewing caught up with less than ten laps remaining and Little made a driver error on the backstretch of the white flag lap and Ewing cashed in on it, making the pass through the third and fourth turns and took the checkered flag. For Ewing, it was his second win in as many weeks. More impressively, he started in the fifth position (third row inside) and closed in on both front row drivers Little and Guy Taylor.

Nick Macklin took a feature win away from Jerit Murphy in the Street Stock division. Murphy looked smooth on top of the 1/5th mile and looked bound for his first feature win after taking his heat race earlier in the evening. Closing in on the finish, Murphy held the lead and Macklin along with Terry Reed made the race that much closer and out of the final turn to the checkered flag, Macklin made the final move to the finish and took the win.

Dennis Vandermeersch made short work of the Sportsman division feature. 15 laps were led by Vandermeersch who took his third feature win of the season.

Another quick race featured the B-Modifieds as Tim Hancock returned to the winner’s circle and led all 15 laps.

The BillingsleyRewards.Com Modifieds portion of the Firecracker 40s did see a winner lead all 40 laps. Cory Daugherty of Blue Mound took the high side and raced as hard as he could to keep the lead away from Curt Rhodes, who was on his bumper for the majority of the 40-lap feature race. The race was full of surprises and cautions and wrecks but Daugherty stayed on strong and didn’t let up from his mission of winning.

Adam Webb won the Hornet feature that was full of action. Taking the lead from points leader Mike Eskew midway through the race and being able to hold on was a struggle as Eskew did not give up on getting the lead back.

Macon Speedway wishes to thank 95Q, Dynagraphics and Decatur Building Trades for their sponsorship of the evening’s racing action. Five racing classes compete next Saturday to finish off the month of June which is headlined by the POWRi Midgets & Micro Sprints. Popular Firecracker 40’s Event Coming To Macon Speedway Saturday Night

Fireworks, Big Ten Pro Lates, and Modifieds Highlight The Evening

(Macon, IL) This coming Saturday, June 23, Macon Speedway will be hosting the popular Firecracker 40 event, presented by Dynagraphics, 95Q, and Decatur Building Trades.  In addition to 40-lap events for the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models and BillingsleyRewards.com Topless Modifieds, four other divisions will be in action.  The evening will be capped off with a fun fireworks display.

Last season, the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds ran topless in their 40-lapper and they will be again this year.  Fans will be able to see down inside the cockpit of the racecars, watching the drivers work their craft.  It’s a cool view for fans and drivers alike, in the only event of the season where the tops come off.

Leading the standings for the division is New Berlin, IL driver, Tommy Sheppard, Jr.  Sheppard won last year’s Pro Late Model championship and is trying to back it up with one in the Modifieds this year.  Argenta, IL’s Danny Smith is second in points, while Zach Rhodes, Austin Lynn, and Rodney Standerfer complete the top five.

The other 40-lap event will come in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models.  It’s also a Midwest Big Ten Series race, so points will be dueled out for both.  Springfield, IL driver, Guy Taylor has had a great early 2018 and leads the standings by 50 over Warrensburg, IL competitor, Dakota Ewing.  Jake Little sits third in Macon points but still leads the Big Ten standings, looking for back-to-back championships with the tour.  Kyle VanDorn and Cody Maguire complete the top five in Macon points.

Godfrey, IL’s Cody Stillwell holds a solid 40 point lead in the DIRTcar B-Mod division at the track.  Stillwell continues to be a model of consistency this year, with seven top five finishes in as many starts.  Jerry Thompson, Tom Riech, Tim Riech, and Tim Hancock are top five point contenders.  Hancock has won four features, while Stillwell, Thompson, and Kevin Crowder have each claimed one.

Back in action this week will be the Sportsman class.  Taylorville, IL’s Tim Bedinger has been a solid contender each week and leads the points by six over Scott Williams.  Bedinger has claimed one win to help make the difference.  Scott Landers, Ty Nation, and Dennis Vander Meersch round out the top five.

Boody, IL’s Shawn Ziemer came up just short in last year’s championship chase to Brian Dasenbrock.  This year, Ziemer has a commanding 82 point lead, using perfect attendance and solid finishes to build the edge.  Lincoln, IL’s Justin Crowell is second in points after an impressive feature win at last Saturday’s event.  Larry Russell, Jerit Murphy, and Timmy Dick round out the top five.

The DIRTcar Hornets are coming off of a big weekend, as the 2018 Ed Cain Hornet Challenge was held at Lincoln Speedway as well as Macon.  While local driver, Adam Webb claimed the $1,000 top prize, the division points are led by Springfield, IL’s Mike Eskew.  Decatur driver, Jeremy Reed is second in points with four feature wins, while Cook Crawford, John Lewis, and Steve Stine round out the top five.

Pit gates open this Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps will begin at 6:00, while racing will take the green at 7:00.  The fireworks will likely take place between 9:00 and 10:00.  Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free.

Webb Triumphs in Ed Cain Hornet Challenge on CAT/PBR Night

(Macon, IL) Adam Webb is no stranger to tough competition.  The 2015 DIRTcar UMP Hornet National Champion has raced with numerous national and track champions on a regular basis, and tonight was no different.  Eric Vanapeldoorn was the one driver who Webb had to fight hard to wrestle the lead away from.  Vanapeldoorn set a new Hornet track record at 13.777 and won the Blue Mound Auto Body Dash For Cash.  He would battle 2 time National Champion Jeremy Reed for the lead as they went back and forth.  Webb would, with about 9 to go, actually secure the lead after a couple of times he inched ahead and a yellow negated a pass made just before the winning move.  Webb would then survive a late race restart to cruise to the checkers and the $1000 payday.
In the BillingsleyRewards.com DIRTcar UMP Modifieds Tommy Sheppard Jr. rolled off from the pole.  The journey to victory lane was far from easy however.  Tim Hancock and Blake Thompson went back and forth right behind Sheppard for the 2nd spot.  Hancock would even show the nose a handful of times to the T6 machine but in the end Sheppard fended off the challenges to cruise to the checkers.
The Decatur Building Trades DIRTcar UMP Pro Crate Late Model feature started with calamity in turn 1 with a large pileup.  All 5 cars involved were able to continue, and the feature would see a pair of familiar drivers in Guy Taylor and Dakota Ewing go at it for the top spot.  Ewing from his outside front row starting spot withstood the challenges of both Taylor and Jake Little to find his way back to Macon Speedway victory lane, his 2nd win in as many nights after winning the night before at Lincoln Speedway.
The DIRTcar UMP B-Mods saw a familiar foe up front in the 0 of Mount Olive’s Tim Hancock.  “Big Block” Hancock put the power down and never looked back to cruise to another victory at Macon Speedway.  The battle for 2nd was a couple of times right behind but Hancock hit his marks and eventually checked out.
In the DIRTcar UMP Street Stocks, a former track champion in Larry Russell Jr. did battle with Justin Crowell in a fast feature event.  The Lincoln, IL driver, Crowell, withstood multiple challenges from Russell Jr and made Crowell sweat it out.  The pilot of the 24 kept his cool, hit his marks, and went on to score his first career DIRTcar UMP Street Stock feature event of his career.
Macon Speedway will be back at it next Saturday, June 23 with the Dynagraphics/95Q Firecracker 40’s.  40 lappers will be held for the topless Modifieds as well as the Big Ten Pro Late Models.  Four other divisions will also race.  A grand fireworks display will cap off the night.

Busy Night On Tap For Macon Speedway Saturday

Hornet Challenge, Diesel Trucks, Racing, & More

(Macon, IL) This Saturday, June 16th, Macon Speedway comes back to life with a crazy night of entertainment.  There will be a little bit of something for everyone this week, as Caterpillar and Pabst Blue Ribbon present the night at the races.  Headlining the show will be the Ed Cain Trucking Hornet Challenge and the Diesel Truck Show & Shine presented by The Truck Stop.

The DIRTcar Hornets rarely get the recognition that they deserve, as they are still looked at as a novice or beginner class.  That said, one show a year that has been really good the last couple of seasons is the $1,000 to win Ed Cain Trucking Hornet Challenge.  It’s a huge payout for the front wheel drive class and some of the best Compact racers in the Midwest converge to go for the top prize.  The trophies are very unique this year as well, championship belts which will be much sought after.

For diesel truck enthusiasts, The Truck Stop will be presenting a Diesel Truck Show & Shine.  Upon arrival, diesel truck drivers will park near the front gate and get a couple of tickets to enjoy the races.  At intermission, the trucks take a few laps around the track and then are judged on best appearing.

Guy Taylor, of Springfield, IL, leads the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models back to the speedway this week.  Taylor has won two of the six features and holds a commanding 48 point lead over Kyle VanDorn, Dakota Ewing, Jake Little, and Donnie Koehler.  Ewing and Little have also won two features each.

Last year’s Pro Late champion, Tommy Sheppard, Jr., of New Berlin, IL, leads this year’s BillingsleyRewards.com Modified division standings.  Sheppard has won just one feature in a class that has had great parity this year.  Danny Smith, of Argenta, IL is second, while Zach Rhodes, Austin Lynn, and Rodney Standerfer complete the top five.

In B-Mod competition, Godfrey, IL driver Cody Stillwell leads the standings.  Stillwell has had six top five finishes in as many races.  Tom Riech, of Springfield, IL is 36 points back and is having a strong season so far.  Jerry Thompson, Tim Riech, and Tim Hancock round out the top five.  Hancock, driving a part-time campaign this year, has won three features.

Boody, IL driver Shawn Ziemer, leads the points in the Street Stock division.  Ziemer is followed in the standings by Timmy Dick, Darrell Dick, Terry Reed, and Brian Dasenbrock.  Dasenbrock, who was last year’s champion, is still recovering from a racing accident that occurred at another speedway a few weeks ago.

Pit gates open Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps start at 6:00, and racing will take the green flag at 7:00.  Grandstand admission is $12 while children 11 and under are free.

Macon Speedway POWRi SPEEDWEEK Event Canceled Due To Rain

SPEEDWEEK Down To Final Event Sunday At Lincoln Speedway

(Macon, IL) After completing the first three events of the 2018 POWRi Illinois SPEEDWEEK, rain hit hard on Saturday morning in Macon, Illinois, forcing the cancelation of the Macon Speedway event.  Drivers, officials, and fans are left highly disappointed as the event was sure to be huge with a great field of cars and the typical crazy action the Midgets bring to the high banked 1/5-mile dirt track.

The Macon Speedway event is typically the most exciting of the week, with sliders, crossovers, and just all out wild racing from the POWRi National Midget League.  The first three events of the 2018 SPEEDWEEK have been well attended with good racing at Belle-Clair Speedway, Fayette County Speedway, and Jacksonville Speedway.  With the Macon Speedway cancelation, only one event remains and that is championship Sunday at Lincoln Speedway.

The Sunday, June 10 event at Lincoln will feature the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, POWRi Speedway Motors Micro League, POWRi Lucas Oil Regional Midgets, Pro Late Models, and Modifieds.  Pits open at 2:00, grandstands at 3:00, hotlaps at 5:00, and racing will take the green at 6:00.

For Macon Speedway, the next event will be on Saturday, June 16 with the Caterpillar/Pabst Blue Ribbon Night at the races featuring the $1,000 to win Hornet Challenge plus the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, B-Mods, and Street Stocks.
