Bud Light Ladies Night Offering Discount Admission At Macon Speedway

Kids To Garner Money During Intermission Gold Rush

(Macon, IL) After an outstanding turnout of 100+ drivers last Saturday night, Macon Speedway now enters the final month of its 2018 season.  Just five nights remain, including the Saturday, September 1st Bud Light Ladies Night featuring $5 tickets for ladies.  In addition to seven divisions of racing action, a kids (11 and under) gold rush will be held at intermission, with hundreds of dollars of coins being poured on the frontstretch to be picked up.

One of the top stories last week was the car count in the B-Mods, as 27 drivers were on hand.  Heading into this week, Godfrey, IL driver Cody Stilwell is up by 42 points on Troy, IL’s Jerry Thompson.  Each driver has claimed two feature wins this season.  Tom Riech, Kevin Crowder, and Tim Hancock, Sr. complete the top five.  The big winner this year has been Tim Hancock, of Mt. Olive, IL, who has won eight features but has missed three races.  Hancock sits fifth in points.

The Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model division put on another thriller last week, as a last lap pass had fans on the edge of their seats.  Ending up in victory lane for the sixth time was Dakota Ewing, of Decatur, IL.  Guy Taylor came up a close second after leading the most laps.  In the standings, Taylor leads Macon, IL driver Donny Koehler by 130.  Ewing, Maguire, and Jake Little round out the top five.

The BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds had a strong field of cars last week and it ended up being a very clean, fast paced race.  Ending up in victory lane was Curt Rhodes, who held off his son Zach in a heated battle.  Tommy Sheppard, Jr. leads all drivers into the night with the standings advantage.  Danny Smith, Curt Rhodes, Zach Rhodes, and Tim Hancock round out the top five.

One of the big surprises last week was the strong field of Street Stocks that showed up.  What wasn’t a surprise was who ended up in victory lane, Jeremy Nichols.  The Lovington, IL driver is always tough to beat when he makes an appearance.  In the championship race, Shawn Ziemer leads Justin Crowell, Jerit Murphy, Larry Russell, Jr., and Terry Reed.

The DIRTcar Hornets and Sportsman will race as well as the Micros By Bailey Chassis, giving fans a little bit of everything when it comes to cars.

At intermission, kids 11 and under will be welcomed onto the track for the kids gold rush.  Kids will be split into a few different age groups and change will be strewn about to be picked up.

Pit gates will open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps will start at 6:00, and racing will go green at 7:00.  Grandstand admission is $12 but $5 for the ladies.  Kids 11 and under are free.

Ewing Edges Taylor for Macon Speedway Feature

(Macon, IL) Rain has been a good thing to have around central Illinois but never on race day. Fortunately for Macon Speedway, area tracks were forced to cancel their Saturday programs due to Friday and early Saturday morning rain storms and that allowed Macon to shine with over 100 racecars in the pit area among six racing divisions, including 27 racecars in the B-Modified division.

Guy Taylor thought he had another feature win in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model division. But with two laps to go, Dakota Ewing came on strong and took it away from Taylor. Ewing slipped up with three laps go and fell back to third place behind Brandon Eskew but came back strong and retook the runner up spot and slided in front of Taylor on the white flag lap and dashed away on the final lap.

There are a lot of things a father will do for his son. Give him a feature win isn’t one of them in the Rhodes household. Curt Rhodes, the defending BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds champion, started on the front row outside, opposite to his son Zach Rhodes who started on the pole. Curt took the lead from the green flag and led all 20 laps. Zach stayed with him every step of the way but could not close in enough to put a serious challenge for the lead. With the white flag waving, Zach gave it one more chance out of the second turn to try the top side but lost the momentum and the opportunity as Curt pulled away for the win. Zach would stay strong and take second place with James Walters closing in on the runner-up spot.

Jeremy Nichols was incredibly fast during the Street Stock feature. Starting on the front row opposite to last week’s feature winner Terry Reed, Nichols blasted off like a rocket and carried on the lead during the continuous green flag laps. Nichols was able to survive the hectic lapped traffic during the race and coast to the victory ahead of second place finisher Nick Macklin.

Billy Knebel has won at Macon Speedway in the past in the Sportsman division. He came to the track in a B-Modified and led ahead of Tim Hancock for 20 laps and certainly proved to the fans that he was just as good in a B-Mod as he was in a Sportsman. Normally racing at Highland, very close to his home, Knebel was given the chance to race at Macon Speedway because of a rained out program.

Erik Vanapeldoorn has proved his speed and capabilities for racing at Macon Speedway through the last few months and once again, he made sure to let Hornet dominators like Jeremy Reed, Adam Webb and Mike Eskew know that the orange E77 comes to win when he enters the pit area. In the 15-lap A-Main, Vanapeldoorn flew out to the lead and stayed a comfortable lead from Jeremy Reed, who was the closest competitor to him by race’s end.

Kyle Schuett was untouchable in both his heat and feature race in the Micro Sprints presented by Bailey Chasis. Schuett blitzed the field and raced away with the lead and the checkered flag in a caution-less 15 laps.

Saturday night’s program was sponsored by Miles Chevrolet & Crown Automotive, presented by Melling Performance. The evening was full of excitement and surprises. Seven area church leaders took the track to seek the chance at being the Faster Pastor. D1 Nazarene Pastor Ryan Lutz won the race in the Hornet of Jeremy Reed. Reed was kind enough to offer trophies for the second and third place finishers of the race. Taking second place was Arthur Menonite’s Lamar Miller, who won the event in the past and also used to race in the Bomber division at Macon Speedway. The intermission was capped off with drivers bringing down their race cars and taking children for a ride around the track for the Kids Racecar Ride. Macon Speedway returns Saturday night to start September and the final month of the 2018 season. Bud Light Ladies Night is on tap with $5 admission for women. Seven racing classes will be featured including the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Hornets & Micro Sprints. There will also be the CEFCU Kids Club Gold Rush during intermission.

Kids To Ride In Racecars Saturday At Macon Speedway

Miles Chevrolet/Crown Automotive To Also Present Faster Pastor Race

(Macon, IL) This coming Saturday, August 25 will be another action packed night at Macon Speedway and a great night to bring the kids to the track.  CEFCU Kids Club will be held in the pavilion from 5:00-7:00 in addition to kids riding in racecars at intermission.  Miles Chevrolet and Crown Automotive will present the six division program as well as the Faster Pastor race.

Kids will be riding in racecars for the second year in-a-row, this Saturday night.  At intermission, drivers will bring their cars onto the track to be loaded with kids from the grandstands.  Once loaded up, the cars will pace the track for a couple of circuits to give the youngsters a very memorable moment.  The event was brought back last season and was a huge hit.

Just before the kids racecar rides, the Faster Pastor race will be on track.  Several area pastors will be behind the wheel of Hornet racecars going for the trophy and bragging rights in front of their congregations, there to cheer them on.

Leading the list of pastors is defending champion, Ed Cain, from the New Life Community Church in Clinton, IL.  Others looking to claim the win will be former winner, Lamar Miller of the Arthur Mennonite Church, Mark Gearig of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Decatur, Ryan Lutz from the Decatur 1st Nazarene Church, Kevin Kriesel of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, Chris Merrit of the Tabernacle Baptist of Decatur, and Brian Korell of Calvary Church of Springfield.

On track action will be led by the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, back after a week off.  New Berlin, IL driver, Tommy Sheppard, Jr., leads the standings by a healthy 124 point margin.  Sheppard has claimed three wins this season, which leads all drivers in the class.  Argenta, IL’s Danny Smith is second in points, while Curt Rhodes, Zach Rhodes, and Tim Hancock, Sr. round out the top five.  In addition to Sheppard’s three wins, Mike Harrison has two, while Curt Rhodes, Zach Rhodes, Hancock, Sr., Austin Lynn, Rodney Standerfer, Guy Taylor, Trent Young, and Cory Daugherty each have one.

In Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model action, Springfield, IL’s Guy Taylor also has a commanding 124 point lead for the track championship race.  Taylor has won five feature events this year.  Hometown driver, Donny Koehler, is second in the standings, while Dakota Ewing sits third with five feature wins.  Cody Maguire and Jake Little round out the top five in standings.

Godfrey, IL driver Cody Stilwell leads the B-Mod standings coming into the homestretch of the 2018 season.  Stilwell is up by just 40 on Jerry Thompson.  Each driver has claimed two feature wins this season.  Kevin Crowder, Tom Riech, and Tim Riech round out the top five.

Rounding out this week’s action will be the DIRTcar Street Stocks and Hornets plus the Micros presented by Bailey Chassis.

Melling Performance will also be presenting the Pro Late Model and Modified winners a prize package of apparel and a $150 product certificate.  In addition, fans arriving early will receive handouts at the gate, courtesy of Melling.

Thomas’ Late Pass Wins Camfield Memorial

(Macon, IL) It was Tanner Carrick’s race. The 30-lap Camfield Memorial at Macon Speedway looked wrapped up with a wire-to-wire win for the pole sitter. And then Kevin Thomas, Jr. came flying in a late lap pass to take the checkered flag and win his fourth POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series feature. Carrick did lead the halfway point to secure a $100 bonus in the memory of Phil Sargent but not enough to secure the feature win and all that goes along with it. The dirt track was very racey as both top and bottom grooves were featured throughout the evening.

The POWRi Speedway Motors Micro Sprint Series presented by Bailey Chasis saw Jordan Howell take his first POWRi feature in a wire-to-wire 20-lap win. He was hounded the entire race by Austin Schaeffer but ran perfect lap after perfect lap to make sure he would not lose the lead.

Dakota Ewing had a perfect night of racing with the fast time in qualifying, nearly taking the track record of 11.124 as he time read 11.170. He breezed through the heat and made good work in the feature to win all there was to win Saturday night in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model division.

Last lap chaos set up Terry Reed for the Street Stock feature. Trailing Justin Crowell and Wes Biesenthal, Reed was positioned to take third but as the white flag came out, Crowell and Biesenthal got tangled and was sent to the back of the field on a restart. Crowell had to start at the tail because he left the track for a flat tire change and Biesenthal for cutting inside the tires instead of staying on the track.

Adam Webb and Jeremy Reed blasted past both Carson and Carter Dart in the early stages to run away with the Hornet feature race. Both Dart brothers were starting in the front row and Reed went fast to pass the Darts and looked as if he was alone but then Webb, who started eighth, came flying along and made the pass thanks to a lapped car slowing Reed down on the backstretch.

Macon Speedway gets ready for Church Night at the track next week with area pastors coming to participate in the annual Faster Pastor race. Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Hornets and the Micro Sprints are scheduled to race.

POWRi Midgets–1. Kevin Thomas, Jr. 2. Tanner Carrick, 3. Jerry Coons, Jr. 4. Tyler Thomas, 5. Jason McDougal, 6. Logan Seavey, 7. Zach Daum, 8. Maria Cofer, 9. Nick Knepper, 10. Daniel Robinson

POWRi Midgets Ready For Camfield Memorial At Macon Speedway

Saturday Night Race Will Be Final 2018 Visit For Exciting Series

Belleville, IL – This weekend, the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League and POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League are set to invade the mighty Macon Speedway for the Fourth Annual Camfield Memorial. The Fourth Annual Rich Camfield Memorial honors the late Rich Camfield, a tremendous supporter of midget racing, nationwide. Saturday’s show at Macon Speedway will be the final visit in 2018 for POWRi.

Heading into the Camfield Memorial, Tucker Klaasmeyer holds a 70-point advantage over Ryan Robinson in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League competition, while Zach Daum holds third. Leading POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie of the Year contender, Karter Sarff sits in fourth with Jake Neuman in fifth. Logan Seavey holds sixth with Joe B. Miller in seventh. Holley Shelton, Tanner Carrick, and Kyle Schuett round out the top ten.

In POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League competition, Austin Schaeffer holds a 170-point advantage over Harley Hollan. Joe B. Miller sits in third, a mere 20-points behind Hollan. Jordan Howell holds the fourth position, while Riley Goodno is in fifth. Gunner Ramey is currently in sixth with Jackson Frisbie in seventh. Trevin Littleton, Garet Williamson, and Jeremy Camp round out the top ten.

In Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model action, Springfield, IL’s Guy Taylor leads the standings comfortably by 116 points over fellow Springfield driver, Jake Little.  Little is currently on military duty.  Donny Koehler has been running strong as of late and sits third in the points.  Dakota Ewing has four feature wins and is fourth, while Cody Maguire is fifth in the track’s Pro Late Model standings.  There is a $100 bonus up for grabs Saturday night to the driver who has the best average finish between Lincoln Friday and Macon Saturday.  In addition, Pro Late drivers who run both events this weekend get a free pit pass Saturday.

Boody, IL driver Shawn Ziemer looks on his way to a championship, leading his fellow competitors by 102 points.  However, several nights remain so anything can happen.  Ziemer has claimed one feature win but has ten top tens in twelve starts.  Lincoln, IL’s Justin Crowell has had a strong season and is second in the standings, also claiming one feature win.  Jerit Murphy, Larry Russell, Jr., and Darrell Dick complete the top five.

Rounding out Saturday’s action will be the DIRTcar Hornet class.  Springfield, IL’s Mike Eskew leads the points by 62 over Jeremy Reed but Eskew will miss this Saturday for his own wedding, a pretty valid reason to miss.  Decatur, IL driver, Jeremy Reed, is ready to pounce, sitting only 62 points behind.  Reed has claimed six feature wins this year and a win on Saturday with Eskew’s absence would pull him within two points of the top spot.  Steve Stine, Matt Reed, and Marty Sullivan complete the top five.

Pit gates open Saturday at 3:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps will begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00.  Grandstand admission will be $15, while kids 11 and under are free.

Destructive Night at Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) The Eve of Destruction was just that Saturday night at Macon Speedway, destruction. Roll overs, race’em & wreck’em and a special flagpole race delighted a crowd which saw just about everything they could imagine. Along for the night’s action was six racing classes and some repeat winners graced victory lane.

Guy Taylor nearly lost his Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model feature win as the 14th lap saw the caution come out when Taylor slid with lapped car Colby Eller into the first turn and Taylor’s car wound up on top of Eller’s machine. Because Eller was a lap down, Taylor was allowed to return to the lead spot as the racing resumed. Taylor needed to be assisted off Eller’s car by way of the tow truck. Taylor pulled away and took the win to extend his points lead during the summer of 2018.

Curt Rhodes has been through some rough moments during his season. From broken bones to eye surguries, Rhodes has continued to compete at the highest level in the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds division. The defending champion ran alongside Tommy Sheppard, Jr. (the current points leader) through the 20-lap feature race and came out with the checkered flag. Rhodes’ night started with a good qualifying time but had engine troubles and needed pushed off the track. After a quick fix, Rhodes ran his heat race well and got the feature, as well.

Darrell Dick made it to victory lane with “Sally” on Saturday night. “Sally” is the name of his new racecar. “Hooptie,” his old ride, just ran out of laps and he brought out a different car and raced strong and fast against the competition of the Street Stock class and took his new car into the winner’s circle.

Jerry Thompson held on a strong challenge from Kevin Crowder to claim his second win in the B-Modifieds class in 2018. His first came back in April during the visit from the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 program.

Molly Day has been racing in the Micro Sprint circuit for a few years and has been gaining experience and seat time through all those years. It helped her as she graced the checkered flag before all over drivers and took her first-ever feature win. The Atwood driver looks to keep up the strong driving over the next two weeks when the Micro Sprints, presented by Bailey Chasis, will return to Macon Speedway.

The Hornets saw a wild finish with Adam Webb racing back to victory lane. Mike Eskew, current points leader, Jerad Matherly and Adam Lewis looked to contend for the lead early but as the laps carried on, Webb picked up steam and pulled through the field after starting fifth and ran away with the win.

The night was capped off with the special race’em & wreck’em spectacular. Six cars on the track needing to make contact with the other races at least once during each lap saw wild mayhem that would be equivalent to a terrible disaster on I-72 or I-55. In the end, the car labeled “Value Menu” raced by “JJ” was declared the winner. The track was entirely covered in wrecked and mangled race parts and bumpers. The crowd loved it.

Those same cars competed in the first-ever flagpole race in which Decatur’s Jason Beard, racing “2 Slow 4 U” raced the ten-lap event to glory. Beard was the first driver to go from the front stretch to the backstretch and do a circle around a tractor tire with a flag inside, and go around to the third and fourth turns and pass the flagstand.

The night was capped off with fireworks.

Macon Speedway thanks Dale’s Southlake Pharmacy as well as Decatur Industrial Electric for their sponsorship of the Eve of Destruction program. Macon Speedway officials hit high gear for the coming weekend with Lincoln Speedway racing on Friday, Illinois State Fair auto racing with the USAC Silver Crown cars and Sportsman heat races Saturday afternoon along with the Camfield Memorial program at Macon Speedway with the POWRi Midgets & Micro Sprints and then back to the Illinois State Fair for auto racing Sunday with the ARCA Racing Series, presented by Menard’s, and Sportsman Nationals feature racing.

Eve Of Destruction IV Plus Racing Set For Saturday At Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) After a week off, Macon Speedway, in Macon, IL, is set for one of the most entertaining nights of the year, the fourth annual Eve Of Destruction presented by Dale’s Southlake Pharmacy and Decatur Industrial Electric, this Saturday, August 11.  In addition to great racing in six classes, the craziness will take place in the car rollover contest, Race ‘Em-Wreck ‘Em, and Flagpole Race.  The night will be capped off with a fireworks display.

Eve Of Destruction, in its fourth straight year at the track, has brought back a couple of events from last year and added a new one to go along with it.  Returning are the rollover contest which will feature two or three cars with brave pilots trying to see who can have the most impressive rollover off of a ramp.  That event is set for intermission.

Also returning will be the second annual Race ‘Em Wreck ‘Em event.  The race will be 10-15 laps and feature compact sized cars with very few rules.  The one main rule is, each driver must make contact with another car once a lap.  In essence, it’s a demo derby circle track race.

New to the Eve Of Destruction schedule will be the flagpole race.  In this event, the competitors will take the green out of four, like a regular race.  As they head out of turn two and down the backstretch, a tractor tire, with a flagpole inside, will be placed about halfway down the straightaway.  When the drivers get to the flagpole/tire, they have to make one loop around it before continuing to finish the lap.

There will be plenty of DIRTcar racing action as well, with six divisions on the slate.  The Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, Billingsley Rewards.com Modifieds, B-Mods, Street Stocks, Hornets, and Micros By Bailey Chassis will be in action.  A fireworks display will cap off the evening’s events.

The top story entering this week’s racing will be the return of 2017 champion Brian Dasenbrock, of Decatur, IL.  Dasenbrock was injured in a freak racing incident at Peoria Speedway early this summer and has been sidelined since.  The accident, which occurred when a piece of rear end gear bounced into the cockpit of the car, struck him in the helmet, and knocked him unconscious.  Dasenbrock then uncontrollably slammed the wall.  It was a scary accident which left him in the hospital for a lengthy stay and left him with no vision in one eye.  Dasenbrock has been cleared by his doctors, recently returning to work and now back behind the wheel on Saturday night.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps will begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00.  Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free.
