6-25-14 — Get ready to see Macon Speedway around town this week. The Macon Speedway show car will be displayed at Mancino’s in Decatur and Assumption Fest. It will also make an appearance in the Assumption Fest parade Saturday morning. That’s a prelude to one of the best fireworks displays in Central Illinois after the 95Q Firecracker 40′s Saturday night.

————————————————-

6-14-14 — Kyle Logue knows how to get around Macon Speedway. The multi-time champ in late models and modifieds here at Macon Speedway, Logue hopped into the Rob Babb late model and steered the No. 91 to victory in a Big Ten Series late model race in the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50′s Saturday by taking advantage of mistakes ahead of him. Logue kept it clean and took home the $2,000 check for the winner. Now he sets his focus on the Herald-Review 100 in the UMP Summer Nationals Tour on July 10 at Macon Speedway. With the Saturday in the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50′s, Logue reminded everyone he should be considered a contender when The Hell Tour makes a stop at Macon Speedway.

6-11-14 –  The folks at Donnelly Automotive Machine Inc., on East Eldorado in Decatur want to make it easier on the ultra-competitive street stocks division at Macon Speedway. So there’s more prize money with a bonus added each week. The Magic Number by Donnelly Automotive will award a $50 gift certificate to the store following the street stock feature. After the feature race is won, a number will be drawn from victory lane to select the prize winner from the feature race. The lucky winner receives a $50 gift certificate to Donnelly Automotive. Thus, if No 5 is drawn, the fifth-place finisher will receive the gift certificate.

6-9-14 — We had things ready to go Saturday for IHOP Night featuring the B.G. Nevitt Memorial Faster Pastor Race and the POWRi midgets/micros, but Mother Nature wouldn’t let us enjoy it. So we go back to the drawing board and get things ready moving forward. There’s no decision yet on when we’ll schedule the B.G. Nevitt Memorial, although a late summer date is likely. Otherwise, The extra time helps us build more on what was already going to be a great celebration to honor B.G.’s life and service to the Decatur area. IHOP Night has shifted to this weekend, when the Muller Distributing Miller Lite Beer Twin 50′s features Big Ten Series late models and Billingsley Towing modifieds in a pair of 50-lappers on IHOP Night Saturday, June 14. Look for coozies from Miller Lite and coupons from IHOP. What a deal!!!!

—————————————————-

6-6-12 — Take a look at the Macon Speedway two-seater when you stop at IHOP at 1280 E. Pershing Road in Decatur. During the month of June, IHOP will distribute coupons at the track good for deals at the store on Pershing. During your visit to IHOP, ask your server for a $2 off coupon on general admission ticket to Macon Speedway during the month of June. Rev up at IHOP, then let the good times roll at Macon Speedway. The restaurant will host IHOP Night Saturday, when the B.G. Nevitt Memorial Faster Pastor Race is held in addition to the POWRi midgets and micros. It’s a full night of racing, so you will be hungry the next morning on your way to IHOP.

5-24-14 — The rumble you hear is the Raminator, a 10,200-pound monster truck that will put on a car crushing display at Macon Speedway tonight. The 2,000-horsepower Hemi engine will rattle the bleachers and thrill fans of all ages. It’s a great night to bring the family. It’s a great night to bring a friend who has never been to Macon Speedway. The first 200 kids 11-under get a free checkered flag. Scouts in uniform are admitted free. I know. I know. It’s hard to wait to see Raminator, so check out the bad boy at Bob Brady Dodge, 4025 E. Boyd in Decatur from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. See yo there.

—————————————————–

5-19-14 — Excitement is building for a big kids night out this weekend, when the Bob Brady Auto Mall sponsors Raminator Night. The monster truck will give an exhibition in the Macon Speedway infield after appearing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bob Brady Dodge, 4025 E. Boyd in Decatur.  On Scout Night for boys and girls, scouts wearing their uniforms get in free to Macon Speedway. Also, the Pinewood Derby is in the pavilion on the front stretch at 1 p.m. The first 200 kids 11 and under to enter the Macon Speedway gates also receive a free checkered flag. If that’s not enough, the CEFCU Kid’s Club meets to entertain our youngest fans. On the oval track, Macon Speedway will race seven classes after just adding B-Mods to the program.

——————————————————

5-15-14 — There shouldn’t be any more questions about the importance of the weekend to the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series. Keith Kunz Racing, a powerhouse team in the series, confirmed its appearance at Macon Speedway Saturday night for the DynaGraphics Night POWRi doubleheader. With two feature races, it’s critically important to compete and compile points in the POWRI standings. Kunz confirmed through Twitter Wednesday night his cars would be here to race on the fifth-mile dirt oval, and series points leader Chris Bell drives a Kunz car. Any more questions? OK, this is going to be an amazing night with double features in the POWRi midgets and outlaw micros, plus four Macon Speedway stock car divisions. Also, DynaGraphics will giveaway a $500 voucher toward any product in their lineup, including a vehicle wrap. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7.

——————————————————

4-25-14 — Here’s a list of what you might see that’s new at Macon Speedway heading into a busy eight-day span, when the track hosts the POWRi midgets on April 26, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on May 1 and the first Bud Light Ladies Night on May 3.

The track has been undergoing a facelift for prom (May 1 and our date with the 100-lap St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100). New paint on the handrails. New black and white pennants on the rails. New red and white flags on the top of the grandstand. Flowers filling the pots. New tires on the inside of both turns on the fifth-mile speedway. The concession stand will also be featuring grilled Heinkel’s polish sausage and smoked turkey drums. Go for the baked potato with all the fixins.

We take pride in the facility, and Macon Speedway has undergone some serious spring cleaning leading up to the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100, which is the richest purse in the history of the track. Gates open at 4 on May 1, because we expect an early arriving crowd. Check out the souvenir trailers that follow the Lucas Oil tour. Make an afternoon of it. Once you get here, you’ll like what we’ve done with Macon Speedway.

——————————————————–

4-15-14 — Legendary Macon Speedway opened last Saturday, and promoter Bob Sargent has a standing rule. If the show isn’t done by 10 p.m., there better be a good reason. Not only did everyone see a fantastic program highlighted by a thrilling duel in Big Ten Series late models, the show was done by 9:45 p.m. Nobody around here wants to waste anyone’s time, so we pack as much racing as possible into a tight window.

So while everyone in the stands only sees the smooth production of Macon Speedway racing, it’s organized chaos behind the scenes. From the tower overlooking the track, race organizers bark at each other concerning cars, laps, wrecks and lineups. Nothing goes unnoticed. The infield workers bring decades of experience, and the concessions are run by folks who take pride in serving quality, delicious food quickly.

From the ticket booth to the beer stands to popcorn sellers and getting the national anthem singer to the stage, it takes great effort for things to run smoothly. We have pride in our product. We want folks to sit back, relax and enjoy the racing. Just don’t look behind the scenes. It’s organized chaos.

——————————————————–

4/8/14 — After a washout last weekend and a great doubleheader with UMP modifieds and USAC Silver Crown at the Terre Haute Action Track, it’s time to get cars back on the track at Macon Speedway. The facility has dried from last week’s hard rains and the lingering showers Monday. With warmer temperatures this week, there should be few problems on the track or the pits when it comes to soft ground. The speedway repaired a water line today, and there will be more spit and polish over the next few days. We can’t wait to throw the green flag. Big Ten late models and B-mods will hit the track with Billingsley Towing modifieds, street stocks, sportsman and hornets. It’s going to be a great show.

———————————————————-

4/4/14 — Unfortunately, Macon Speedway has cancelled the Spring Fling season opener. We will now open on April 12 for the 69th season of racing with the Midwest Big Ten Series late models. Also a full card of racing. Gates open at 5. Racing at 7.

———————————————————-

4/2/14 — Some folks need to be nominated for employees of the month. Macon Speedway wants to give a big pat on the back to Doug and Connie Black, the husband-wife team who run the main concession stand here at the track. They’re good ole hometown folk who take pride in the speedway, and the Blacks have played a big role in leading the concession stand and helping staff it by recruiting kids from their routes as bus drivers in the Meridian school district. The concession stand passed the health department inspection after Doug and Connie made sure everything was cleaned up. So when you come to the track this season, you will know the kitchen is as clean (or cleaner) than the one you left at home.

———————————————————–

3/30/14 — One project during the Test N Tune practice session Sunday was walking through the pits and shaking all the drivers’ hands to tell them thanks for coming to historic Macon Speedway. If there’s anyone we missed, we apologize. It was a crowded pit Sunday with close to 60 cars, and drivers were busy tinkering with their equipment and jumping back on the track. So if we missed you, just know that Macon Speedway thanks you for coming, and we’re looking forward to a great season. It starts Saturday with the Spring Fling season opener. Throw the green flag. It’s time to go racing.

————————————————————-

3/27/14 — It’s going to be hard to get the Macon Speedway opener off your mind. Macon Speedway personnel spent part of the day working a promotion with Decatur businesses to advertise the Macon Speedway season opener on April 5. So when you’re driving around town next week, take a look at the message boards. I bet you’ll see some mentions about your favorite dirt track just 9 miles down the road in Macon.

————————————————————–

3/25/14 – We’re getting excited about the beautiful spring weekend that will allow everyone to get outside and check out two big events. The Macon Speedway Car Show is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum on U.S. 36 East in Decatur. On Sunday, Macon Speedway holds Test N Tune practice from noon to 4 p.m. Gates and pits open at 11 a.m.

The forecast calls for sunny days with highs of 55 degrees Saturday and 66 on Sunday.

See you there.

—————————————————————–

3/24/14 – Technicians gave the Macon Speedway public address system its annual check up Monday. All the speakers work, and the speedway also has a new amplifier. We understand it’s a big battle to be heard over the roar of the engines.

So now we’re busy putting together a playlist of music for the racing season. We’ll mix country with classic rock, plus some music for the younger generations, too.
