MOWA Sprint Series, NASCAR Star Tony Stewart & Dynagraphics/Fast Impressions at Macon Speedway Saturday, July 27

(Macon, IL)  Macon Speedway and Dynagraphics/Fast Impressions, along with Donnelly Automotive, welcome the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Car Series this Saturday night, July 27 as a part of the MOWA Sprint Week that runs from Wednesday, July 24 through Saturday, July 27. The best winged sprint car drivers in the Midwest will try to tame the Macon bullring as winged sprints return to the legendary track including NASCAR Champion and co-owner of Macon Speedway, Tony Stewart. Stewart will be racing his winged sprint car for the first time at Macon that night.

Tony Stewart’s love is racing winged sprint cars. So it’s not hard to understand why he’s making a trip to his track to jump in during MOWA Sprint Week. Any type of open-wheeled race, he’s there. It will be a night of excitement when he goes up against the top Midwest drivers in the series.

Not only is the Sprint Week title on the line, but the series overall points battle at the top with A.J. Bruns leading the series as of July 20, with Jerrod Hull and Paul Nienhiser rounding out the top three. The series includes top sprint drivers such as Jim Moughan, Ben Wagoner, Jimmy Hurley, and Robbie Standridge. Any one of them could come out on top during this week’s action in determining who is going to be crowned the inaugural MOWA  Series Champion.

MOWA co-founder Joey Moughan shares in that excitement, “When we started this series, we wanted to be able to race at the premier tracks within two hours of our home base in Springfield, Illinois and there’s no doubt that Macon is at the top of that list. The action on the track should be incredible, especially with the added drama of it being at the end of our Sprint Week.  I know that I’m coming there planning to win it.  The problem is that there are twenty or more other guys who want it just as bad.  It should be an awesome night.”

But the excitement doesn’t end with sprint cars. Macon Speedway has put together a Saturday Night  full of racing with the Billingsley Towing Modifieds, Street Stocks, Outlaw Hornets, Stock Hornets and 600cc Mini Sprints. Each division is heating up as the season is going into the last stretch on who will come out as the track champion.

Pit Gates open at 3 pm; grandstands at 5 pm; racing begins at 7 pm.  General admission tickets for adults are only $18 and children 11 & under are admitted free with a paying adult.

Macon Speedway is located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then 1/2 mile west on Andrews Street, then South on Wiles.

2013 D Tire Rule for UMP Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks

After a wet spring tire rule goes into effect June 14th

In an effort to bring racing to a more level playing field amongst competitors as well as a more competitive show for the fans, Macon Speedway and Paducah International Raceway have decided on tire rules for the Modifieds and Street Stocks. Generally when rules are made they are set out and enforced immediately. Rather than make changes abruptly we have decided to apply them on a gradient scale.

The allotted time frame for each phase of this rule will allow drivers time to use up the tires they may already have and also give them a time frame to get the approved tires they need.

Opening Night thru June 14th —D’s, A’s and H’s will be allowed on all four wheels

After June 14th thru July 19th—Only A’s or H’s will be allowed on Right Rear.  No D’s on Right rear.  Left Rear and both fronts D’s, A’s, or H’s will be allowed.

After July 19th—–Only A’s or H’s will be allowed on Right Rear and Left Rear.   No D’s will be allowed on rear of car.  D’s, A’s, or H’s will be allowed on fronts until further notice.

We truly feel this will increase the level of racing action that can be provided to the race fans. As well as prevent drivers from the expense of the D tire being purchased on such a regular basis. Putting drivers on a more level field will only contribute to better racing!
