Racing Specials & Fireworks To Celebrate Holiday Saturday At Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is ready to go for Saturday night’s 95Q/Dynagraphics Firecracker 40’s presented by Decatur Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. Six divisions will race with special 40 lap races for the Decatur Building Trades Big 10 Pro Late Models and BillingsleyRewards.com Big 10 Modified. A fireworks display will light up the sky toward the end of the night.

Headlining the event will be a 40-lap feature event for the TOPLESS BillingsleyRewards.com Big 10 Modifieds. The class will be running for Macon, Big 10, and national points all while running without the roof of the cars in the annual topless event. The race will pay $800 to win and $125 to start. Macon Speedway and Big 10-point leader, Rodney Standerfer, of Sullivan, IL, leads the field of Mods into town. Austin Lynn, Guy Taylor, Alan Crowder, Jarrett Stryker, and Tim Luttrell are others to watch fend off a hungry field of challengers.

The Decatur Building Trades Big 10 Pro Late Models are also ready for a 40-lap event paying $800 to win and $125 to start. Much like the Modifieds, one driver leads the Macon and Big Ten standings. That driver is Warrensburg, IL’s Dakota Ewing. Ewing has claimed Big 10 wins at Lincoln and Macon and will be looking for his third Saturday. Jose Parga, Blaise Baker, Rockett Bennett, Colby Eller, Dalton Ewing, and Ryan Miller are others fighting for top spots.

The DIRTcar Pro Mod class has veteran Guy Taylor, of Springfield, IL, at the top of the standings. Taylor has won four of the seven features, while Kevin Crowder sits second in points. Zach Taylor, Maxx Emerson, and Matt Milner round out the top five in points, entering Saturday’s event.

The point battle in the 51 Bistro Street Stock division is extremely close, much like last week’s exciting finish in the feature race. Terry Reed leads the standings over Bobby Beiler by just two points. Beiler finished second last week by mere inches as he made a great run on the inside lane challenging Nick Macklin for the win. Another exciting finish might be in store for Saturday’s action. Saturday’s race will be the final tuneup for the Street Stocks before next Saturday’s Bruce Dulgar Classic.

Jeremy Reed leads the points in the DIRTcar Hornet division by 30 over Tristin Quinlan. Reed has won three of the eight features this season but has had a bad luck streak as of late. Following the pair are Billy Mason, Taryn Page, and Brady Reed.

Rounding out this Saturday’s racing will be the Micros by Bailey Chassis. A lot of familiar young drivers are at the top of the standings with Aarik Andruskevitch, John Barnard, Hayden Harvey, Daryn Stark, and Collin Shain among them. The five teenage drivers have been strong all season.

At or toward the end of the racing program, a firework display will be held to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

Pit gates open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps will take the green at 6:00, and racing will begin at 7:00 PM. Grandstand admission is $18, while kids 11 and under are free.

POWRi Speedweek Comes to Macon Speedway

By BZ

(Macon, IL) The return of the POWRi National Midget Series returned to Macon Speedway Saturday night as part of a week-long event in the state known as Illinois Speedweek. One of the hot drivers on the circuit has been Cannon McIntosh of Bixby, Oklahoma. Already with wins during the week, McIntosh was flying around the 1/5th mile of Macon Speedway during the 30-lap feature race. Only caution flags were slowing him down as he led the race wire-to-wire and took the top prize on Saturday.

The Engler Machine & Tool POWRi Micro Sprint Series Presented by Bailey Chassis saw seventh-place starter TJ Smith came on strong with two laps to go to take the win from Jeremy Camp. Camp, a Macon regular, was pulling strong in search of another feature win, but a restart changed things. Smith caught on fast on the bottom and made the pass. The driver from California took his first Macon Speedway checkered flag.

Nick Macklin made it two in a row at Macon Speedway in the 51 Bistro Street Stocks as he passed Rudy Zaragoza for the lead on the seventh lap and held off Terry Reed and Bobby Beiler to the finish. Beiler made it very close at the finish with the bottom side turn out of the final corner. Beiler moved to second place on the finish and challenged for the lead as the race hit the end.

The Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model feature was not able to be run on Saturday night as impending storms threatened the race and the conclusion of the night. Drivers and track officials agreed that the race could be made up another time to save from starting and stopping the event. It was a good decision. Just minutes following the conclusion of the Micro Sprint feature, the clouds opened and the rains fell. A double-feature night for the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models will be announced soon.

The Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models will have plenty to do next Saturday with a 40-lap feature race as part of the Midwest Big Ten Series. It will be part of the 95Q/Dynagraphics Firecracker 40s Presented by the Decatur Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Along for the program will be the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds in a Midwest Big Ten Series event and a 40-lap feature, the 51 Bistro Street Stocks, Pro Modifieds, Micro Sprints Presented by Bailey Chassis, the Hornets and a huge fireworks display!

The following evening will lead to July 3rd and the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals event at Lincoln Speedway with $5,000-to-win for the Super Late Models. The Summit Equipment Modifieds series will also be at Lincoln and they’ll also have the 305 Sprint Cars at the track.

Ewing & Ewing Finish Top Spots in Late Models

By BZ

(Macon, IL) Dalton Ewing has been working at being a better driver. Coming from the Pro Modified division a season ago with some success, he got an opportunity to get a Pro Late Model car and he has adapted well. His brother Dakota has enjoyed a lot of success with feature wins and championships along the way and Saturday night, the two finished 1-2 during the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model 20-lap A-Main feature. Dalton led Dakota for all 20 laps as he can the top of the track and with precision and kept his brother at a car’s length for the duration of the race. With one caution flag during the 20 lapper, Dalton powered ahead and finished the race just ahead of Dakota for the checkered flag. Dakota went to the bottom and tried to pull ahead but didn’t come through as the race ended.

Rodney Standerfer picked up his second-straight BillingsleyRewards.com Modified win. Running ahead of the 20-car field, Standerfer was steady on the top and outpowered the Pro Modified Guy Taylor until Taylor fell out on lap eight. Jacob Steinkoenig followed behind with second place and Austin Lynn took third. Pole sitter Clint Martin stayed within the top five and finished fourth ahead of Jarrett Stryker.

The race was full of excitement in the 51 Bistro Street Stocks. Nick Macklin ran off with the lead at the top of the track but Terry Reed ran behind him to catch up and was followed by Bobby Beiler. With the final flag laps coming, a caution flag came out as Terry Reed was near in passing Macklin for the lead. As the race restarted, Macklin kept Reed at bay and pulled through with his first win of the season.

Two-time feature winner in the Weddle Performance Engines Sportsman made it three-time feature winner as Dennis Vandermeersch took the lead from Wes O’Dell coming out the second turn on the fourth lap and officially on lap five. O’Dell wasn’t going away, however, as Vandermeersch had to stay clean through the turns or risk losing the lead. The retired firefighter won by a car length over O’Dell.

Although Guy Taylor had a tough finish to his night, he showed dominace in the Pro Modified feature, taking all 15 laps and leading the majority of the race by half-a-lap over second place car Bobby Beiler. The win for Taylor was his fourth of the season in the Pro Modified division. He also scored heat race wins in the Pro Modifieds and the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds.

The six division night was capped off with the 4-cylinder Hornets. A back and forth criss-cross race saw Jimmy Dutlinger from Peoria win his second feature of the year. Jeremy Reed worked with Dutlinger for a few laps on the lead but fell off the track with two laps to go as his car was slowing.

The kids came to Macon Speedway ready to race during intermission as the CEFCU Kids Club presented the Power Wheels Demo Derby. In two derby races, third-year-old Blaney and seven-year-old Kenzlee won their events as the other kids’ Power Wheels lost or popped balloons that were on the four corners of the vehicles.

Lincoln Speedway and Macon Speedway host Friday and Saturday night action next week with the POWRi Midgets & Micro Sprints in town for the Illinois Speedweek. Action at Lincoln will also include the Pro Late Models and Modifieds in a Big Ten Series event. Saturday at Macon will include the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models and the 51 Bistro Street Stocks.

Old Guys Still Got It

By BZ

(Macon, IL) The veterans, the ones who got race fans and drivers into the action, still got it. Of the seven division night on Saturday at Macon Speedway, three drivers claimed themselves as “old guys on the senior citizens tour” and took the checkered flag during the feature races.

Phil Moreland has raced in the Weddle Performance Engines Sportsman class for many years and its been a while since he’s climbed out of the car and had his picture taken with the checkered flag. Starting from the front row outside position, Moreland raced ahead of Wes O’Dell and Dennis Vandermeersch and ran great laps to make sure he would hold the lead. He was flawless in his 15 laps and won the feature race.

Darrell Dick has his 51 Bistro Street Stock for sale. The price went up on the car after winning a Jayne Excavating & Welding 30-lap special. Dick led from the second lap of the race and stopped Nick Macklin, Terry Reed and company from taking the lead. Macklin challenged for the majority of the race and nearly took the lead from Dick but neither groove would work for the pass. A caution flag with two laps to go gave Macklin one more chance for the lead but Dick was quick on the restart and pulled away for the finish. In the 30-lap special from Jayne Excavating & Welding, Dick won the $750 first place prize. All 15 cars in the field received $75 to start the A-Main event.

The third “old timer” to claim the checkered flag was Rodney Standerfer in the BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds. Standerfer started fifth and by the midway part of the race was in the lead and then the final ten laps were spent pulling away from the rest of the group. Danny Smith and Jarrett Stryker exchanged the lead and bumped a few times in the first ten laps but Smith started to assume control under Standerfer started to get hooked up with the track and then took off. After a difficult start to the season, Standerfer is starting to put himself back into his normal form.

The Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models was filled with excitement from the drop of the green flag. Four drivers with feature wins already this season filled the 13-car field. The top rows featured serious competition with Colby Sheppard, Dakota Ewing, Jose Parga and Timmy Dick. As the race put together green flag laps, Sheppard ran the top of the track and looked solid doing it. Parga was closing in from the same like while Dick and Ewing chose the bottom of the track. Braden Johnson started ninth and got past some middle of the road traffic to get hooked up on the top and move up to third place ahead of Ewing and Dick. As the race was coming to the closing flags, Sheppard closed in on the top of the turn four wall and then Parga came down on him for the pass and contact was made between the two which led to Sheppard getting wiped out. Race officials discussed the decision for the caution and placed Parga to the back of the field for taking out Sheppard. On the restart, Sheppard started to pull away while the action for second place was full of excitement with Ewing, Dick, Johnson and an emerging Blake Damery. Coming to the finish, Sheppard claimed his second feature win in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, while Dick scored second. Damery, who started last in 13th place, took home third.

Guy Taylor finished second last week in the Pro Modified feature but took care of business on Saturday. Getting ahead of the pack and keeping Austin Seets at reach, Taylor powered ahead for his third feature win of the year.

Aarik Andruskevitch looked like a second place Micro Sprint during his heat race but then fortune found him for the pass at the end of that 8-lap heat race to move past Austin Schaeffer for the win. After that, Andruskevitch got a pole position starting assignment in the 15-lap feature race and put any doubt to bed with a dominate performance. Zero caution flags, 15 laps, finished in 3 minutes. For Andruskevitch, he won his second feature race of the 2022 Macon Speedway season in the Micro Sprints Presented by Bailey Chassis.

The night was capped off with a 15-lap feature race for the 4-cylinder Hornets. Jeremy Reed looked like the car to beat until blasting into the wall in turn three early on. Michael Gossett pushed to the lead and led until Brady Reed took the pass for the lead and put it away for his second win of the season at Macon. For taking the race, Rocco’s Bar in Decatur added $100 to the winner’s purse.

The solid night of racing was finished at 9:30pm. Back-to-back racing programs with the night’s finish coming just after 9pm. Next Saturday Night will be a 6-division program with the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, Weddle Performance Engines Sportsman, 51 Bistro Street Stocks, Pro Modifieds and Hornets. The night will also include a CEFCU Kids Club visit and intermission fun with the Power Wheels Demo Derby for the kids.

$5 Grandstand Tickets Available for Macon Speedway Ladies Night Admission

(Macon, IL) This Saturday night, June 11, will not only be a great night to take the family to the races, it’s also the perfect evening to have a girl’s night out at the track. Lady admission to the grandstands is just $5 per ticket this Saturday night for the annual Ladies’ night at Macon Speedway. Seven divisions of racing action will be on track.

Headlining the evening show will be the Jayne Excavating & Welding 30 for the 51 Bistro Street Stocks, running for Midwest Big 10 Series points. The event will pay extra money with a $750 winner prize and $75 just to start the race. Blue Mound, IL driver, Bobby Beiler, leads the Big 10 standings after claiming the series only race this year at Lincoln Speedway. Last week’s winner at Macon Speedway, Terry Reed, will be one to watch as well, a three-time champion in the series.

Warrensburg, IL driver, Dakota Ewing, currently is atop the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model standings. Ewing has claimed two feature wins and has five top five’s in six starts. Last year’s champion, Colby Sheppard, is second in points, 32 markers behind. Colby Eller, Dalton Ewing, and Rockett Bennett complete the top five in points.

Springfield, IL driver, Guy Taylor, claimed the championship one year ago in the BillingsleyRewards.com Modified division and is the favorite to do the same again this year, leading by 26 over Alan Crowder. The difference between this year and last, Taylor is running his Pro Mod in the class, leaving him with a little less power than he had a year ago. Following Taylor and Crowder are Tim Luttrell, Rodney Standerfer, and Jacob Steinkoenig. The class has seen great car counts and racing all season long.

Much like the Modified class, Taylor leads a Crowder in the Pro Mod class standings. This time, it’s Kevin Crowder, Alan’s brother. Taylor has won two Pro Mod features, while Crowder, Guy Taylor’s nephew, Zach, Matt Milner, and Maxx Emerson complete the top five. Zach Taylor is coming off his first feature win this past Saturday night.

The Weddle Performance Engines Sportsman are back this weekend, set to run their fourth feature of the year. Springfield, IL driving veteran, Dennis VanderMeersch, leads the points by 12 over Jim Farley, III. Rick Roedel, Scott Landers, and Phil Moreland are top five point contenders. VanderMeersch has won two features, while Wes O’Dell has also found victory lane.

Decatur, IL’s Jeremy Reed leads the Hornet division points after winning three of the first six feature events. Second in points is Tristin Quinlan, while Billy Mason, Taryn Page, and Brady Reed round out the top five in points. Mason, Brady Reed, and Jimmy Dutlinger have also won feature events this season.

Rounding out Saturday’s action will be the Micros by Bailey Chassis. Aarik Andruskevitch, a young driver from Riverton, IL, has claimed one feature win and leads the standings by just two points over John Barnard. Hayden Harvey, Collin Shain, and Jacob Tipton are others in the top five.

Pit gates open Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $15 but just $5 for ladies’ general admission.

Next Generation Taylor Wins Checkered Flag at Macon Speedway

By BZ

(Macon, IL) During the recent years when a Taylor wins a race at Macon Speedway, many would guess it to be Guy Taylor, the son of Hall of Famer Dick Taylor and brother of former track champion Matt Taylor. But now, a new Taylor has emerged as a feature race winner–Zach Taylor.

The Pro Modified feature event was an exciting display of 15 laps between both Zach and Guy plus heat race winners Dean Holt and Brian Burns. Holt led the first seven laps of the feature race and then caution flags came along and slowed the field. Holt lost the lead on lap eight and Zach Taylor took the lead away from Holt. The battle then became for the Taylor family. Zach Taylor sticking to the top of the track and Guy Taylor going to the bottom. The action got side-by-side in the closing laps and as the checkered flag hit the air it was Zach Taylor winning the race with his uncle coming in second place.

Saturday night was also the second part of the annual Ed Cain Trucking Hornet Challenge. Lincoln Speedway raced with 18 Hornets on Friday and 14 cars showed up Saturday to race for the $700-to-win event. Jeremy Reed, eighth place finisher at Lincoln on Friday, rallied back at a track he’s won a lot of races and championships to take the 20-lap feature event. Reed would lead all the laps and the eyes started to focus on the second place race as Mike Eskew was fending off Jimmy Dutlinger. A late caution set up a green-white-checker finish and gave Eskew the chance to pull close to Reed for the win but the #34 was too tough on this night and claimed the top prize and third feature win of 2022 at Macon Speedway. R33D Racecars presented a $100 bonus to the highest finishing Hornet car that has not raced at Macon Speedway in 2022 and that went to Derrick DeFord from Canton. Macon Speedway also featured two drivers from South Milwaukee, Wisconsin–Jacob Balk & Jay Orr.

The BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds raced in a Big Ten Series event that saw Austin Lynn get redeemed from Memorial Day Monday. Lynn lost the lead and win to Alan Crowder on Monday in the 50-lap race and Lynn was challenged by Jeremy Nichols and Jared Thomas through the 20-lap A-Main feature race. Nichols raced hard with Lynn at the beginning and got tangled up on lap six which was caused by Nichols and sent him to the tail of the 20-car field. With Lynn retaining the top spot, Thomas ran the same line and groove as Lynn and closed in for the lead but Lynn was too fast on the top and got the win and points for the Big Ten Series.

The top groove also helped Jose Parga take his second feature in the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Model division. Racing with Braden Johnson, Dakota Ewing and Colby Sheppard–all four drivers who have feature race wins this year–the race looked like it could have been up for grabs. But from the green flag to the checkered flag, Parga dominated and pulled away from Johnson, Ewing, Sheppard and Ryan Miller.

The top groove was usually where Jeremy Camp likes to run in the Micro Sprint division Presented by Bailey Chassis. The top line wasn’t work out well for him as he nearly put it into the concrete wall early in the race and had to rally back to wrestle the win away from John Barnard. The race closed in due to consecutive green flag laps that allowed Camp to play catch up on the bottom and pass Barnard for the win on the white flag lap.

Terry Reed came back to the Macon Speedway winner’s circle by taking the 51 Bistro Street Stock division. He was followed to the finish by Nick Macklin, Jaret Duff, Bobby Beiler and Jordan Smith. Reed all the laps and raced around the top of the track to get his first win of the season at Macon Speedway.

The Street Stocks get ready for a special event next week when Jayne Excavating & Welding host a Big Ten Series event for $750-to-win during a 30-lap feature. All seven divisions will be in action including the Decatur Building Trades Pro Late Models, BillingsleyRewards.com Modifieds, Weddle Performance Engines Sportsman, 51 Bistro Street Stocks, Micro Sprints Presented by Bailey Chassis, Pro Modifieds and the Hornets. Gates open at 5pm with racing at 7pm.

The racing action for the first Saturday in June was terrific. The night’s racing began a few minutes before 7pm and the last lap was completed just minutes after 9pm. Macon Speedway thanks all drivers and spectators for joining on a great night of action!
