Jerrod Hull – String of Seconds Ends with Macon Win!

(Bill W) July 29, 2013 – It was a great fortnight for Jerrod Hull and the Rockwell American #12 team. After five straight second place finishes, they were able to grab a win at the Macon Speedway in Illinois last Saturday night. The event was part of MOWA’s Illinois Sprintweek, that also saw a second at Highland Speedway, a fourth at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City and a rain postponement in Jacksonville.

On Friday, July 19, Jerrod and the team tuned up with some 360 action with the Sprint Invaders at Jacksonville. “We were able to start on the pole in the heat and win that,” says Jerrod. “We were really fast in the Dash. I thought we may be able to get Russ Hall at the checkers, but we ended up second.”

Starting third in the main event, Jerrod would chase Matt Sutton to finish second. “Matt did a great job and ran the cushion well,” he says. “There was nothing I could do to get around him. I dove down to try and shake him up, but he stayed nice on top. The track was the best I’ve seen Jacksonville in two years. Tommy is working it great.”

MOWA Sprintweek started last Wednesday at Highland. “We missed the setup a little bit at Highland,” says Jerrod, who ran third in both the heat and the Dash. “We probably should have run fourth (in the feature). Robbie Standridge and Jimmy Hurley got together. That put us in third, and I started running the bottom. The track actually started taking rubber there the last few laps and I started coming and I was able to pass Greg Wilson at the checkered. We probably didn’t have a second place car, but it was good to finish there.”

Friday saw the series at Tri-City Speedway. “We started up front in the heat at Granite City and won going away,” says Jerrod. “The car felt good. We drew the eight for the Dash. We got going and I was able to get two cars.”

Starting sixth in the feature, Jerrod would checker fourth. “We got to fourth really quickly,” he says. “I was running with Tony (Stewart), and that was exciting. It lasted for a while. I went up top and then came to the bottom. At that point, it was rubber-down and right around the bottom. We had a good car, and I think we had a shot at the top three without the rubber. We gained a lot of points on AJ (Bruns) there. He didn’t have a good night.”

After Friday’s postponement at Jacksonville, it was time for a win at Macon. “We drew outside the front row beside Tony Stewart,” says Jerrod. “That was exciting. We were able to take the lead from the start and win the heat.”

Jerrod won the Dash from outside the front row. “The car was really good in the Dash,” he says. “Scott (Bonar) has made some changes to the car that has really worked well.”

Jerrod led every lap of the feature from the pole. “We started beside Jimmy Hurley there, and I got the jump on the start,” he says. “The car was just really perfect, and I like Macon. We’ve always done well there. It’s a little place where you get in lapped traffic in a hurry. The cautions came right when we needed them too. We were able to hold on. It was a good week.”

The team is weighing their next racing options. “We’re not running with the Outlaws this weekend (at Pevely),” says Jerrod. “We’ve only got one motor and we’re trying to win the MOWA deal. It has a lot of nights on it. We’ll see what we have going on the week after.”

Jerrod and the #12 team would like to thank: Rockwell American, Midland Performance, Super Shox, Sebastian Sand Blasting & Powder Coating, Inc., Sherwin Williams, Chuck’s Small Engines, Don Hamilton, HRP, Lighthouse Christian Center, Logo Daddy, Hoosier Tire, Simpson, Weld, Automotive Machine, Maxim and Heartland Trailer Manufacturing.
