Bell sweeps POWRi midgets weekend heading into four-day Illinois Speed Week

MACON, Ill. – Rising star Chris Bell powered his way to a doubleheader sweep over the weekend at two famous Indiana tracks to boost his victory total to seven this season in the POWRI Lucas Oil National Midget Series heading into Illinois Speed Week.

Bell won Saturday to become the first-ever POWRi midget world champion on the quarter-mile Brownstown Speedway in a series that included trips to Australia and New Zealand. On Friday night, the driver from Norman, Okla., won the POWRi feature at Bloomington Speedway.

“This trophy is a credit to all the guys that I got to work with.  It really is a team effort, Bell said. “I was very fortunate down in New Zealand and Australia and thanks again to Keith [Kunz] because I have one of the best rides available. This is such a cool deal to go to New Zealand and Australia and race against some of the best midget drivers in the world.

Tanner Thorson finished second with Darren Hagen third in Brownstown. The previous night, Bryan Clauson finished second with Thorson placing third at Bloomington.

Macon Speedway hosts the POWRi midgets Saturday during IHOP Night, the same night POWRi outlaw micros and Beach House Mini-Sprints also do battle. Macon Speedway also will hold the B.G. Nevitt Memorial Faster Pastor Night in a race among area ministers.

POWRi Speed Week starts at Quincy Raceways Thursday before POWRi races at Lincoln Speedway Friday. The run ends with racing at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville Sunday.
