Summer Nationals hit big track, short track back to back at Action Track, Macon Speedway

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Let’s see who can handle the big track and the short track.

After the UMP Summer Nationals run the lightning fast half-mile Action Track in Terre Haute  Wednesday, the tour returns to famed Macon Speedway Thursday for the 34th running of the Herald-Review 100 on the world’s fastest fifth-mile high banked dirt oval. How’s that for a tricky combination of two tracks in two days.

It will test the drivers and their crews. That's the longest and shortest distances on the Summer Nationals tour.

The program is loaded with big names in Terre Haute. NASCAR Sprint Cup rookies Austin Dillon and Justin Allgaier will hit the Action track and join NASCAR stars Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. With the Summer Nationals nearing the finish line, expect all of the contenders to head to Terre Haute. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7:30. Tickets are $25 for adults.

Ryan Unzicker of El Paso., Ill., led the points standings after the weekend. Shannon Babb, the Moweaqua (Ill.) Missile, stood second with defending tour champ Brandon Sheppard (New Berlin, Ill.) third, followed by Brian Shirley (Chatham, Ill.) and Bobby Pierce (Oakwood, Ill.).

Babb won the Herald-Review 100 last season and has four wins, tied for the most ever with Kevin Weaver and Bobby Pierce Sr. Schrader will also run his modified at Macon Speedway. Tickets are $25 for adults.

Macon Speedway is dirt track’s version of Bristol Speedway. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7.
