Macon Speedway ready for racing Saturday night highlighted by POWRI double features

POWRi defending champion Zach Daum leads the points standings again.

MACON, Ill. – Get ready for POWRi double features at Macon Speedway Saturday night. After some wet weather rolled through the area Friday night, the Macon Speedway track crew is already getting the legendary fifth-mile high banked dirt oval ready for the POWRi double features. Fans have been talking for months about the double feature night, and this is it. We are racing Saturday night.

The POWRi stars love coming to Macon Speedway, a track built specifically for midgets in 1946. The size of the straights and the roomy banking combine for some great passing, and there will be plenty of slide jobs. With the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets and Speedway Motors Outlaw Micros both running double features, it’s one of the best racing programs of the season. We’ve waited all year for this, and fans are planning to get here early to drop a blanket to save their favorite seat.

Zach Daum, of Pocahontas, Ill., leads the POWRI midget standings as he attempts to win back-to-back titles. The lineup of drivers who will likely run both the POWRi program and the USAC Tony Bettenhausen 100 Sunday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds includes Bryan Clauson, the reigning Chili Bowl champion who also qualified for the Indy 500 in 2012.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7. Adults pay only $15 for general admission with children 11 and under free when accompanied by a parent. Parking is free, and there’s plenty of room for camping. Beach House Mini-Sprints will compete against the POWRi Outlaw Micros, making for a great battle between the touring stars and the local favorites. Billingsley Towing Modifieds, Street Stocks, Outlaw Hornets and Stock Hornets will also race.

Tickets for Sunday’s Tony Bettenhausen 100 for USAC Silver Crown cars are just $15 when purchased at Macon Speedway Saturday night. The Bettenhausen 100 takes the green flag at 1:30 p.m. on the Springfield Mile.
